France vs Albania, what really happened?
France vs Albania Euro qualification match was delayed about ten minutes after an unusual mix-up took place (video below). Albanian national team refused to kick off because the wrong national anthem is played.
The ceremony before the match was being held and as per protocol, there was supposed to be the hearing of 2 national anthems Albania the guests and France the hosts, but Andorra national anthem was played instead of the Albanian, which led to the refusal to start the game until the correct one was played.
What made things even worse after a few minutes of embarrassment, before the actual anthem was played an apology was announced by the Stade de France announcer where he apologized to the Armenian fans, by saying that “the Armenian anthem would arrive soon”.
France coach Didier Deschamps spoke with Albania coach Edoardo Reja as referee Jesus Gil Manzano waited several minutes for the right anthem to be played at Stade de France before starting the game.
France stayed in command of their Euro 2020 qualifying group as Kingsley Coman’s double and goals from Olivier Giroud and debutant Jonathan Ikone earned them a 4-1 home win against Albania on Saturday.
The world champions, who conceded a late penalty converted by Sokol Cikalleshi, have 12 points from five games in Group H and lead second-placed Turkey on goal difference after they beat Andorra 1-0 with a last-gasp Ozan Tufan goal.
Iceland is third, also on 12 points, after claiming a routine 3-0 victory against Moldova.
France next faces Andorra at the Stade de France on Tuesday when Albania take on Iceland and Turkey travel to Moldova.
