Armen Sarkisian Elected 4th Armenian President

Today the Armenian parliament elected Armen Sarkissian as the 4th President of the Republic.

Former President Serzh Sarkisian who is not related to the newly elected President, had named him as the Republican Party’s choice.

President Armen Sarkissian was born June 23, 1953, in Yerevan, Armenia. He has served as Armenia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom and a was a member of the University of Cambridge. He was the Prime Minister of Armenia from November 4, 1996, to March 20, 1997.

In accordance with recent constitutional reforms regarding the presidency, the President-elect is not a member of any political party.
