EU opens organic production educational centre in Armenia

The FINANCIAL — A new hub for Armenian farmers interested in growing organic food has been opened in Asharak, Aragatsotn province with the support of the European Union.

The hub, called “Agrolog Organic Educational Production Centre”, aims to promote organic agriculture in Armenia and to share experience in this area. The centre’s activities will cover the entire value chain, from the soil to the end consumer, according to EU Neighbours East Info.

At the opening of the organic centre, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, said that the EU believes in the development of Armenian agriculture: “We consider agriculture as one of the engines of growth in Armenia.”

“More than 30% of the Armenian population is employed in agriculture – most communities are rural communities,” he added. Therefore, the EU is convinced of the need to develop agriculture in the country.
